Within Striking Distance: Superstar Golfer Rory McIlroy Fighting For World No. 1 Ranking
But there’s no doubt that he carries a couple of monkeys on his back. One of those definitely being a World No. 1 ranking, of course.
There’s but one golfer on the Planet that’s standing between Rory and the distinction of being the absolute best in the sport: Luke Donald.
Catapulting to a career-high No. 2 ranking after a clutch birdie in Shanghai this week (at the WGC-HSBC Champions Event, where he finished a solid fourth), Rory’s on the cusp of being able to overtake the current leader for the sport’s top spot.
Even if he had emerged victorious in Asia, the current points differential would have been just a tad too much to overcome at this point. That said, he’s closer than ever…and Donald is well within striking distance.
Keep an eye on Oakley’s golf industry darling as he battles for the peak of the sport.

Oakley Shady Lovers Art Show – Virginia Beach (For all Oakley Fans! A must watch!)
Oakley + Art + Virginia Beach: A raging party.
Exhibit O: September. Defiantly forgetting about the uncharacteristic earthquakes and a massive hurricane that threatened the Eastern Seaboard, VA locals sent off Summer (and hordes of tourists) — with big middle fingers in the air — the only way they know how. With style. Artistic style, that is.
Local artists descended on the Oakley “Shady Lovers” Art Show, painting up the sickest eyewear on the Planet, while getting the place rockin’ with music and plenty of flowing beverages.
All with its own Virginia Beach vibe — complete with the beautiful people and the vibrant, Oakley-laced atmosphere.

Sweep: Snowboard Ripper Queralt Castellet Tops Oakley-Dominated Podium at LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Halfpipe

Oakley Women: Oakley Compulsive Squared with Amethyst Frames and G40 Black Gradient Lenses 05-356 for only S$259 (Usual Price: S$400)
With yet another podium sweep, the O Women’s Snowboard Team dominated the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Halfpipe Contest – lead by Spanish ripper Queralt Castellet, who claimed her second World Cup victory with a 87 point score to top fellow O Rider Sophie Rodriguez.
The tiny charger threw down a frontside air to backside 540, frontside 540, backside air and frontside 720 – topped off with some major height and an ultra-clean run – to take out the field.
“But I don’t think it is related to Switzerland or so,” Queralt said, rocking her Oakley snow goggles and gear. “It’s got more to do with the top conditions. I’m stoked that I was able to win especially as we all had to cope with the wind while trying to pull down our runs.”
Rounding out the podium was yet another O rider, Ursina Haller, who busted out a solid 75 points in the Finals and overtook the lead in the halfpipe rankings. She was the only female to attempt a 900 – but missed the mark by just a tad (frontside 900 to backside 540, frontside 540, backside air, frontside 720, cab 540).
Rodriguez dazzled the audience herself, stomping a frontside air to McTwist, air to fakie, cab 720, frontside 720 and cab 360 in her run to take the runner-up spot.
All-in-all, it was one brilliant day for the O Team in Saas-Fee!

Kremlin Cup: Tennis Star Janko Tipsarevic Claims Second Tour Victory in Russia
Oakley’s blooming Tennis Star claimed his second ATP World Tour victory this past weekend, topping his good friend and Serbian Countryman Viktor Troicki at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Russia – 6-4, 6-2.
After the tour’s first-ever all-Serbian final, Janko, who shot up to an ATP year-to-date No. 10 ranking following the victory, displayed understandably mixed emotions.
“It was really tough,” Janko said, sporting his Oakley Prescription/Transition Fast Jacket performance eyewear. “We were both tight. You could cut the tension with a knife. It was like a nightmare to play against your friend.”
Nonetheless, he employed the necessary aggressive play to emerge with the triumph – inching him closer to a potential qualification for London and the ATPWorld Tour Finals.
“Even if I say I don’t want to think about London, I knew it was a big opportunity for me,” he admitted. “Every single point counts for London now. It is going to be really hard but not impossible. If I don’t qualify for London, then my next goal would be to finish in the Top 10.”
Coming out of the gates blazing, Janko broke to begin the match – but Troicki stormed back in the fourth game to even the score at 2-2. After four holds, Troicki dropped serve in the ninth game and Janko cruised on to finish the set.
The second set had Troicki hold his ground after an onslaught from Janko – taking a 1-0 lead. But Oakley’s international standout eventually secured an insurance break to move ahead 5-2 – sailing on to the win from there after breaking Troicki’s serve twice.
With that, 46 wins on the year were in the bag.
“Kuala Lumpur was more emotional because it was my first ATP World Tour title, but here I was more nervous as I was playing Viktor,” Janko said, referring to his first-ever trophy and his friend, who claimed the Moscow victory last year. “It was not a surprise that we played the final, as we were the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds here.”
Congratulations to Janko for the amazing win!

Oakley Profile: Casey Stoner, MotoGP premier-class world champion since 2001
“I will be going out to win, same as ever, because that´s what I enjoy doing.”
Casey Stoner became the third premier-class world champion since 2001 with a phenomenal second season in the category; his first as a works Ducati rider.
With a background in Australian dirt-track, Stoner boldly moved to Europe as a teenager, where he shone on a 125cc machine in the UK and Spain. A five-year rise into MotoGP saw two 125cc wins and five 250cc successes, and he even managed a podium result with 2nd place on only his third MotoGP outing in 2006.
After only two years Stoner is already the 5th best performer ever in MotoGP in terms of appearances and victories. Only four other riders have won 8 or more premier-class races in a single season – Mick Doohan, Giacomo Agostini, Valentino Rossi and Mike Hailwood.
Stoner is the second youngest rider to win the premier class title after 1983 Champion Freddie Spencer. His debut win in Qatar in 2007 made him the first Australian rider to win in all three current GP classes.
